Upcoming Events and Classes

Filed under: bike repair classes — nicholasb @ 9:13 am

We get heaps of requests for maintenance classes, and although these aren’t being run by us, these two courses from Sydney Community College look pretty good..

Conducted by a qualified bicycle mechanic, learn how to fix a puncture, remove a wheel and replace a tyre, maintain their brakes, adjust gears, check steering, pedal, axle and wheel hub bearings, check the general safety of bike and set up your bike with a correct and safe riding position.

Havent ridden in a while and feeling a bit rusty? Is your bike gathering dust in the garage? Get some confidence back by learning new skills and enjoy your bike again. Do some exercise and discover Sydneys new cycleways. Learn how to check the bike and even take the front wheel off to fit it in the car. Enjoy a cycleway ride with a group.

Also, Gear Up Girl is back on again. The workshop is on the 9th of Feb, with the Challenge ride on the 8th of March – International Women’s Day.

“Gear up Girl is about getting women of all ages and abilities on their bikes. This year we are excited to present two days of cycling fun: the Gear up Girl Workshop and the Gear up Girl Challenge.”

so, we are finally going to hold the long awaited mechanic classes many people have wanted for quite some time. The idea is to run them on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm till 9pm. Small classes, very hands on, with your bike and tools, so you can actually remember how to do it later. Cost for now will be $40 a night, which will need to be paid on booking over the phone or in person, to reserve your spot.

So, the preliminary timetable is

Tue 21 November Basics – wheel removal, how to fix a flat, looking after your bike and making it more comfortable and more useful

Tue 28 November Brakes and Gears – replacing cables and brakepads and adjusting

Tue 5 December Bearings – bearing servicing, and precision adjustments

Tue 12 December Basics – wheel removal, how to fix a flat, looking after your bike and┬ámaking it more comfortable and more useful
