2006 BikeSydney Summer Solstice Ride
22nd Dec at 1.30am (Thurs nite/Fri Morning)

Bike Sydney are holding the 2nd BikeSydney Summer Solstice Ride.Celebrate the longest day of the year by joining us for a unique event – the 2nd BikeSydney Summer Solstice Ride.

The ride is back. After the fantastic 2005 Summer Solstice bike ride, we decided we MUST do it again.

This time the ride is to South Head – The Hornby Lighthouse above Watsons Bay.

Date: Friday 22nd Dec (so catch a bit of an early nite Thursday and get some sleep and set that alarm clock)
Time: 1.00am (Friday morning) for a 1.30am depart.
Location: Martin Place – near the Cenotaph

The ride itself will take in lots of fantastic water views, some sneaky bike paths and undiscovered parts of Sydney. So charge those batteries (and bring spares), bring that puncture kit and some food for the ride (depending on what is open we may be able to get something to eat).

As a bit of a theme this year – wear something Red or put some tinsel on your bike.

Also we will need to ride out of Watsons bay as the ferry from there does not start until 10.30am. The ferry at Rose Bay starts at 6.00am. Some images from the 2005 ride can be found at

And my mate wrote this

Summer Solstice, Sydney
by Brad Truran

Metal steeds commingle with the sun
faithful, even though defiled;
teach us to be mindful of car doors and potholes.
The sons and daughters of the velocipedic
solstice puff their uphill exhalations,
morning, noon and night they observe.
Ancients attuned to the turning wheels
laugh, ever so slowly at first.
It’s a long, long way from the spokes of time,
to synthesize with our spinning cranks and chains.
